Blood Orange is just one of the monikers that English singer, songwriter, and producer Dev Hynes has operated under. Angel's Pulse is the 5th project under the Blood Orange label. It is meant to serve as an epilogue to the 2018 release, Black Swan. Hynes stated that he has the habit of only sharing select songs with cloee friends or giving them to random people on the street on tape, but this time he decided to release the collection of songs.
On this project Dev incorporated features from the likes of Toro Y Moi, Project Pat, Gangsta Boo, Justine Skye, Tinashe, frequent collaborator Ian Isiah, and more. He used them in different ways, some being direct up front features while others serve as merely background vocals.
This mix tape is filled with themes of overthinking, and how Dev still battles with his insecurities even at the age of thirty-three. Assisted by Toro Y Moi, 'Dark and Handsome', speaks on Dev's insecurities and how he tries to fill the void by purchasing iced out chains and other vices that still don't help him cope with his downfalls.
'Good For You' highlights Justine singing about the new found freedom she has after letting go of her lover. While Dev raps about letting go of a vice just to pick up another one and how that whole cycle still keeps his stress intact.
Blood Orange will be going on tour with Tyler the Creator later this fall.
