DANIEL CAESAR'S CASE STUDY 01 REVIEW, ACID RAP IS ON ALL STREAMING PLATFORMS! AND SONG OF THE WEEK

Daniel Caesar's sophomore album, "CASE STUDY 01" came on short notice, but immediately had me intrigued. I didn't know what his approach would be following his stellar debut, "Freudian", but this record finds Daniel gaining more confidence in his self identity. Typically, like most artists after a successful debut album, one of the main topics on this LP is how he has dealt with transitioning into stardom.

He rightfully boasts how proud he is that he has established and continued to release his music independently through his label, Golden Child Recordings with his friends and other collaborators. The record is filled with less insecurity, anxiety & depression than "Freudian", although he knows he's not immune to it. Take the intro track, 'Entropy' for example. it's defined as the measure of uncertainty in a system, or as Urban Dictionary puts it, "the tendency for all things to go from order to disorder" Caesar claims that he has found peace but knows that disorientation and chaos in his life is inevitable, so he might as well stand boldly in his true self.

'Love Again', a collaboration with legendary R&B singer Brandy, he pens an ode to a familiar love and longs for those old feelings. Through all the pain and pitfalls of their relationship, even when they drift a part from each other, they always seem to find their way back together.

The slow, drugged out number 'Open Up', shows a different side of Daniel where he is very straight forward with how he wants to deal with the women that he becomes involved with at this stage in his life. He wants to skip the small talk and have deep, intimate conversations about philosophy. Only so he can pick her brain, but if he had it his way, he'd rather not talk at all and get straight to the "business."

The album title, "CASE STUDY 01" lives up to its name. It finds him testing the waters with many immediate topics that are at the forefront of his mind, with some that may even be considered as taboo.

CHANCE THE RAPPER "ACID RAP" IS ON ALL STREAMING PLATFORMS!

The wait is finally over! Chance the Rapper's Acid Rap and 10 Day mix tapes are now available on all streaming platforms. This is huge considering a lot of projects from the mix tape era get lost in the ether, as the bulk of music consumption has migrated towards the major streaming tycoons. Most of the mix tapes from that time period consisted of freestyles or remixes over the instrumentals of popular and trending songs at the time.

While putting his most popular mix tapes on streaming platforms, Chance ran into a common issue that most artists run into. He couldn't get the sample of Donny Hathaway's 1972 song 'Jealous Guy' cleared for the quirky, up-tempo track 'Juice'. However, that didn't stop fans from streaming the classic "Acid Rap" and tweeting about their nostalgic flashbacks and excitement.

Chance also announced that all three of his mix tapes, "10 Day", "Acid Rap" and "Coloring Book", will be released on vinyl, which is dope, because I am a huge vinyl collector. So, adding "Acid Rap" & "Coloring Book" to my vinyl collection will be sick!
