Hi guys, Happy New Year! I hope you all had a great NYE and ready to start the New Year. So, before we get started I just want you guys to take a moment and examine your closet. If you see clothes everywhere or hanging out of your drawers, then you have something called a “Clothing Clutter”. Organized people, pay close attention.
Take everything out
Some of us have the tendency to hold on to clothes that we wore in high school or maybe even middle school. In addition with your old clothes, you’re probably buying more and more clothes that now it’s turned into a big clutter. So, let’s take out that sweater your ex gave you back in 2016 and put it in the “Go away“ pile; or, get rid of that dingy white t-shirt that probably isn’t even white anymore.

Build 4 Piles
For every garment/shoe that you examine, ask yourself these questions:
Have I worn this in the last 6 months?
Does it fit well?
Will I wear this within the next week?
Is there a permanent stain or a hole in it?
Now create 4 piles of clothes: the “Stay today” pile, the “Best dress” pile, the “Around the way” pile and the “Go away” pile. This stage is where you show NO MERCY for no shirt, pants, or sweater! I don’t care if the hoodie has held you down through the good and bad times, if you’re barely wearing it now then it’s got to go!
Examine each piece of clothing and see how many times you’ve worn it and if it’s still worthy of staying in your closet.
You want to look at your closet as your wardrobe vault with every clothing having a value or purpose. *minimalist 101* but anywho, The ”Best dress” pile should be stacked with your favorite tops, bottoms, or shoes to wear.
Your “Around the way” pile is the clothes that you would wear to run errands or to just chill in the house. If your “Go away” pile is beginning to stack higher than your “Stay today” pile then maybe it’s time to re-evaluate your style. Check out my previous blog about “Ways to Find Your Unique Style”!
Get rid of any garments that have stains, holy molys, or that has lost it’s actual color
These are the clothes that you definitely need to let go or give away. *Reminder: Your ”Go away” pile should be given to some sort of thrift store or donation organization*. As for the “Around the way” pile, these clothes are what you constantly pull for a quick change or your go-to chill clothes.
Be careful not to have this pile stacked higher than your other piles because that just shows that you are a “home body” who does not get out the house often. Which we are young we should be up, down and across town!
You can also turn clothes that you don’t wear anymore into a different type of piece. For example, for my fellas, if you have an old t-shirt that you don’t wear anymore, you can cut that shirt into a “muscle shirt” and wear it when you are on your way to the gym.
However, if the shirt has a stain that every time you wash it, it won’t come out then let it go. Everything in your closet should be presentable and ready-to-wear at any given moment.
Keep the clothes that makes you feel comfy, happy, and confident

That includes colors, designs, and the fitting of the clothes. If a garment has these three in your liking then it stays! You want to wear things that make you feel excited to go out and start your day. Once you start wearing things that make you feel good (which is a feeling that you will know when it comes) then your attitude and demeanor will also show it.
Even on a bad day, always try to put on a good luck accessory or garment. It will uplift your spirit a bit.
Lastly, remember an organized closet helps you prepare a dope outfit. Keep your shoes in order and hang the clothes that needs to be hung. Fold anything likely to lose its shape if hung, and put it in a drawer.
Section your clothes into categories. You can organize it by: colors, garment type, or by purpose ex: weekend/party clothes.
If you have many accessories, use baskets for small things like belts and clutches. Also, use hooks for bigger items such as scarves or bags to keep them off your closet floor.
Remember to have confident with everything that you wear. Own it and show the world that this is who you are, take it or leave it. We already have a thousand and plus one other things to deal with... having a clutter closet makes it now better. Start off your New Year clutter-free!
